PASSING STRANGE AT SUNDANCE

Spike Lee's film of PASSING STRANGE, the Public Theater and Broadway musical by Stew and Heidi Rodewald, created with and directed for the stage by Annie Dorsen, premiered at Sundance last week. See some of the extraordinary reviews

Box Office says:
"Tender, sexy , funny, moving and profound, Passing Strange bears comparison not just to the great works of the American musical theatre but to literary landmarks like James Baldwin’s Another Country and (especially) Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man...A work of genius."

The New York Times reports:
"The members of the audience responded as if they were at the musical itself, whooping, clapping and, yes, dancing, as the movie unfolds over a raucous soundtrack."
and

"The roof got blown off."

The Hollywood Reporter says:
"Deftly capturing the exuberance of singer-songwriter Stew's popular Broadway musical "Passing Strange," Spike Lee's new film elatedly affirms the show's inspiring theme of creative discovery."

And Film.com raves:
"Grade: A....vibrant and compelling. We don't get to see films of this measure very often, and it's a rare treat when the power of voice is used to make us happy, sad, and thoughtful. "
